Sail Making
A selection of photographs from SKB Sails of Penryn taken in 2002 during the manufacture of the sails for the Happy Return.
They are of hand sewn Clipper Canvas with hand sewn bolt ropes and cringles all done in the traditional manner.
The Fore Lug is 705 sq. ft. in area, the 1st Mizzen 418 sq. ft. and the 2nd Mizzen 247 sq. ft. The sail plan is also shown below:-
   
   
   
   

First Hoist
August 2003: The sails are tried for the fist time and can be seen being bent on to the masts and spars in Penzance wet-dock prior to the first hoist. Problems could then be recognised and rectified.
